Designing you a better lifestyle

Stunning alfrescos, patios and decks at affordable prices

Tracy, Kristin, and their 3 children have lived on the farm for some time now. In recent years, the couple has worked on lovingly restoring parts of their home’s interior.

The gardens and outdoor entertaining space, however, was left undeveloped. It fell into neglect as Kristin managed the farm and Tracy worked on Cranmore Home - their enormously successful home furnishing business named after the farmstead.

Tracy and Kristin’s backyard had certainly seen better days before we started on their Patio Living project

As 2017 came in, the couple started looking into reinventing their outdoor space to provide a haven for the family to relax in and entertain family and friends.

With the farm being far more isolated than any property in the metro area, it was essential the new alfresco area provided a resort style feel that allowed Tracy, Kristin, and the kids to chill out and relax after mum and dad had spent a long day managing their businesses.

Patio Living had already completed a project with a similar design brief for close friends of the family who also owned a farm in the area. Not long after that we also tackled another project - again on a large farm just down the highway. From these recommendations in early 2017, Patio Living manager Nick Jolley found himself once more taking the 200k trip north of Perth to help create an alfresco area and inspire the family that their sparse garden and simple outdoor living space could be transformed into a stunning living space.

The farm building itself was already a very interesting and beautiful building, and so great care was taken to select which materials complimented the overall character of both the buildings and the landscape, as well as the location.

Choosing which materials to work with took considerable planning to ensure everything works with the existing farm building aesthetic

Ascher Smith, a Perth-based landscaper who was friends with Tracy and Kristin, worked largely on the design for the gardens and pool. Patio Living worked closely with Ascher to produce the 3D images of the alfresco extension and the landscaping design.

The collaboration helped Tracy and Kristin get a better grasp of how the project would come together, as well as how it would complement the existing home and feel like a natural extension rather than an add on.

The results were astounding. A white lined gable roof forms the main undercover area and louvres both sides allow for better air flow thru the structure.

You can just imagine how brilliant the place is for entertaining guests

Around the corner, a smaller pergola with specially engineered timber slats that let in the winter sun but shade the family in summer sits over a previously unused courtyard, creating a second space.

A second area lies around the corner from the main alfresco

Yet another spot to lounge about in is the travertine tiled paving that extends from the alfresco up to a new pool overlooking the farm beyond. The pool itself is surrounded by a deck that compliments the warmer colours of the travertine tiles and the amazing flint stone walls of the buildings.

Ascher came up with the designs for the gardens and pool area

All furnishings came from Cranmore Home, Tracy’s business. The results greatly showcase how some creative design and great finishing touches can make an outdoor entertaining area have the comforts of the indoors.

And so what used to be a patch of grass, some uneven pavers and a few native shrubs have given way to an oasis that can be used all year round and provide a lifestyle that embraces everything that living in WA is all about.
